My boss is hiring a so called "temp drafter" to help us out with our work load. He's thinking about buying AutoCAD 2007 LT instead of a full version. I'm not sure if any version of AutoCAD LT supports AutoLISP functions, and we use lots of them for different things. I'd appreciate any feedback and recommendations.

Randall,
Tell your boss that AutoCAD LT does not currently support AutoLISP.
If AutoCAD LT is what he wants to purchase, then I recommend AutoCAD 2009 LT
with the Tookit 2009 offered by CadOpolis.com for $339.00.
Here is the link for the information on CadOpolis.com.

You will probably need an "autolisp extender". Be careful which one you buy. Make sure they are dedicated to supporting the Visual lisp functions.
I have run into this in the past writing programs for users of LT, DrCadAuto extender, does a pretty good job but there are certain circumstances where this extender does not return the exact same thing as the full version of Visual Lisp. Although they say, as the rest of the "Autolisp Extenders" say, they support all autolisp functionality.
A little history, based on my memory, which should be checked! When AutoCad came out with LT versions. Autolisp was blocked. But it was still part of the install file. You had everything but you were blocked from using it. The first "Autolisp Extenders" simply turned a switch from off to on and autolisp ran fine. Many people paid good money for this functionality. Since then, (guessing AutoCAD version 2003) Autodesk stopped this nonsense and many extenders went away.
If you are going to buy an extender.....I suggest researching it thoroughly.
I have also seen a couple of news articles where Autodesk was suing the LT Extender companies.
